Dan and Dave Buck are two of the most influential figures in modern cardistry. Their distinctive approach to playing cards helped demonstrate that a deck could be much more than a tool for traditional card games or magic – it could be designed specifically around movement, visual presentation and the experience of handling the cards.

Their best-known creation is undoubtedly Smoke & Mirrors Playing Cards. Originally developed with a restrained, minimalist aesthetic, the series became hugely popular among cardists, magicians and playing card collectors. Numerous editions and colourways have followed, turning Smoke & Mirrors into one of the most recognisable modern playing card series.

Dan & Dave’s wider catalogue is considerably more varied. Decks such as MAKERS explore intricate illustration and luxury production, while releases including Bucks Souvenir Playing Cards draw inspiration from unusual pieces of vintage design. Collaborations with other influential names in cardistry have also produced decks such as Smoke & Mirrors x Dealersgrip.

Many Dan & Dave decks are produced in relatively small quantities or as one-off releases. Older editions can consequently become difficult to find once the original stock disappears, making the brand particularly interesting for collectors.
