From the Casino Table to the Collection
Casino playing cards have influenced deck design for generations. Traditional casino decks prioritise clarity and practicality: easily recognised faces, strong contrasting colours and repeating back designs that look equally at home being dealt across green felt or sitting in the hands of a magician.
Modern designers have taken that visual language and created their own imaginary casinos, complete with distinctive identities, locations and histories. Collections such as Cherry Casino and Ace Fulton’s Casino capture the atmosphere of classic American gambling halls without simply reproducing a standard casino deck.
The result is a particularly interesting area of playing card collecting. Some casino-inspired decks retain a deliberately simple, functional appearance, while others feature foil, embossing, metallic inks and highly elaborate packaging. Limited releases and discontinued colourways can also become sought-after additions to a playing card collection.
Casino Playing Cards for Magic and Card Games
The restrained designs associated with casino decks also make many of them excellent working cards. Clear faces make games easy to follow, while symmetrical backs and familiar layouts are well suited to sleight of hand and card magic.
