Messymod Playing Cards (2nd Edition)

Bold, strange and meticulously designed, Messymod Edition 2 Playing Cards transform a standard deck into an exercise in modern graphic design.

Messymod – short for Messy Modernism – was conceived by Los Angeles creative team TRÜF. The style brings together geometry, pattern and generous white space with influences drawn from modernist design, including Bauhaus and Joan Miró.

Edition 2 applies that distinctive visual language across an entirely custom deck. Traditional suits and familiar playing-card forms are broken down and reconstructed using circles, lines, repeating patterns and geometric shapes. The limited red, black and white palette keeps everything surprisingly coherent despite the deliberately unconventional artwork.

The court cards are a particular highlight, replacing familiar illustrated royalty with wonderfully abstract geometric characters, while the number cards feature custom pips that shift between solid forms and patterned variations.

Despite its experimental appearance, this remains a fully functional standard deck suitable for card games. It’s also an excellent choice for collectors who gravitate towards graphic design, typography, modern art and unusual playing cards.
