The Bicycle Transducer, Oriduru Edition brings together modern card design and traditional Japanese aesthetics, inspired by the symbolic Oriduru, the origami paper crane. In Japanese folklore, folding a thousand cranes is said to grant a wish or bring lasting good fortune, and the crane is considered a mystical creature believed to live for a thousand years.
That cultural inspiration runs through the deck’s visual identity, from the refined back design to the elegant patterns found across the faces. Every pip, including the small corner indices, has been carefully redesigned using the foliage-scroll style, a classic decorative motif seen throughout Japanese art. The court cards follow a cool monochrome-and-blue palette with touches of warm red, giving the deck a contemporary yet distinctly Japanese character.
The Jokers feature stylised Japanese warrior figures, constructed using geometric, folded-paper-like forms. Each warrior stands between two spears, their armour and kabuto-inspired headpiece clearly visible, a striking, culturally rich interpretation that fits beautifully with the deck’s theme.
The Ace of Spades is another highlight, redesigned with a bold Oriduru-inspired motif and crisp linework that stands out immediately. The tuck case continues the blend of modern and traditional, pairing a black-and-white layout with metallic silver accents that create a subtle three-dimensional effect. Each deck includes a double-backer and an ad card.
Printed by Bicycle in the USA on premium stock with a smooth, high-quality finish, this edition is both visually striking and excellent to handle. Rare, out of print, and seldom seen in the UK, it’s a superb addition to any premium playing-card collection.
